Citadel of Porto-Vecchio
Between sea and mountains, Porto-Vecchio has sites of exceptional beauty. Among them, the beaches of Palombaggia and Santa Giulia, the Ospedale forest or the upper town with its bastions and ramparts listed in the inventory of Historical Monuments. At the foot of the citadel, the port, sheltered at the bottom of a 9 km gulf, is certainly the most beautiful gateway.
A port dating from the 6th century BC, undoubtedly founded or taken over by the Greeks of Syracuse in the 6th century BC, which is located on the site of the Roman “Portus Syracusanus”.
It now has a capacity of 350 places, including 150 for passing boats. It can accommodate boats up to 50 m long and with a draft of less than 4.5 m.
